What our New Legislature Means and How Platform Can Help you Navigate it

We asked some of our Platform experts for their insight into the changes in the legislature from the election and how our services can best help you navigate these changes. Check out what they had to say below!

Rusty Schultz - Executive Vice President of Operations

“While much of the focus of the recent election was on the presidential and congressional candidates, locally, voters also elected a new slate of state legislators. With many familiar faces returning to Madison when the new legislative session kicks off, there will be several first-term lawmakers being sworn into office thanks in part to retirements, incumbent upsets, and new legislative maps.

Divided government is something Madison has known since 2019, but with new partisan makeups in both the state Senate and Assembly, having robust messaging and public affairs strategies mapped and executed has never been more important. Smaller majorities means coalition building is more important than ever and having a message that can cut through the rhetoric is going to be the key to success in the session ahead.

With a team that has worked at all levels of government, through divided politics and more, find out how Platform can ensure you're prepared for the headwinds ahead in the state capitol.”

Alex Walker - Director of Public Affairs

“The results of Election Day in Wisconsin confirmed what we already know: Wisconsin is about as close to a 50/50 swing state as you can get. Republicans won the state for President-elect Donald Trump while Democrats were able to re-elect U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin.

At the state level, Republicans lost 4 Senate and 10 Assembly seats, largely due to redistricting, but still maintained GOP majorities in both chambers. Looking ahead, Republicans and Democrat Governor Tony Evers have very different agendas they want to enact in the next legislative session.

A divided government paired with slim GOP majorities presents unique challenges that can be addressed through robust public affairs and messaging strategies. Platform Communications has the expertise and insight to build successful coalitions and develop meaningful relationships to help our clients reach their goals.”

Alec Zimmerman - Senior Director of Advocacy & Strategic Communications

Whether it's the Legislature or a new administration, we know how a transition works because we've been a part of it.
